Sheridan College Purchases DisasterLAN System to Help Train Students in Incident Management
Sheridan College recently purchased Buffalo Computer Graphics' (BCG) DisasterLAN (DLAN) Emergency Manager Edition with GIS to help train students in Incident Management. As the Emergency Management System currently utilized by the Regional Municipality of Halton Ontario and the City of Toronto, DLAN will help facilitate student learning by providing the same tool used by emergency management professionals in Sheridan's region.
Using the system students will get hands on experience with the tools emergency mangers use during day-to-day operations and emergencies. They will learn how emergency managers utilize the technology to better prepare for, respond to, and report on incidents and events.
"Sheridan's Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management is one of Ontario's long-running programs in this area and we are delighted to partner with Buffalo Computer Graphics (BCG) and FutureShield to provide students with access to this innovative technology for managing information and coordinating responses during incidents and emergencies. The use of the DLAN package facilitates experiential learning opportunities for our students who will be able to apply their learning through using this cutting-edge software in the classroom and in applied training scenarios. Sheridan's School of Public Safety greatly appreciates the support of BCG and FutureShield in providing the next generation of emergency management practitioners with access to an industry leading software package." - Gary Galbraith - Program Coordinator, Emergency Management & Investigation: Public and Private
Sheridan College received educational pricing for the technology as part of BCG's efforts to make it affordable for educational institutes to get access to real world tools. BCG's Toronto based technology partner, FutureShield, assisted Sheridan in ensuring a smooth implementation and configuration process.
"We are so pleased that Sheridan College's School of Public Safety has taken advantage of BCGs educational program to train students on DLAN. We look forward to supporting their efforts and seeing the students come into the field oriented and ready for action." - Cynthia Weeden - President, FutureShield
